Why Certified Organic?

LIFE is a certified organic farm because we believe in the importance of sustainable farming to protect and preserve our natural environment and human health.  Organic farming is more than just avoiding synthetic pesticides and fertilizers; it is a management system focused on building and stewarding the soil to ensure the continual health of crops and the larger environment.

LIFE has chosen to undertake organic certification through the USDA because we believe it provides assurance to our customers and our larger community that an independent group makes sure we follow the organic guidelines.  We also assist farmers who are interested in transitioning to organic and applying for certification.  We hope to convince others that it is a worthwhile and achievable goal. LIFE is certified by Indiana Certified Organic.

Organic farming has many positive results.  This photo is a fine example of the attention paid to soil improvement and reduction of soil erroision.   It was taken just downstream of LIFE Farm after an early spring rain.  Three small streams come together here. The two cloudy streams are run-off from nearby conventional farms.  The clear stream on the top flows from LIFE Farm.
